Will do. I understand your concerns. I, too, felt the same. Nevertheless, I was very impressed to hear how well the girls turned out.

If you do talk to her, let me know. I've yet to meet someone homeschooled.

It is legal here but I heard homeschooled kids have lower priority to enter secondary school.

I would love too though, but honestly am not sure if I have the dedication and patience.

Actually, I wasn't the one to meet her. My friend did. She was so impressed, she was swayed towards the idea of home schooling. I have been meaning to ask her what she learned...

But you're right - it's not the sort of thing that sits well in an Asian society. I don't know about Singapore, but I've been told it isn't legal here to homeschool. The loophole around it is to register your child at a proper school, or something to that effect...

I must thank the stars Wolf never pooped in his bath water... :D

I have to give unschooling much more thought, although in Asian society, the family will probably have me flayed alive.

Where did you meet this fortunate young woman?

Oh yes, I should add that one of the motivating factors for attempting to practice EC was to avoid the pooping in the diapers bit. We got quite good at it until we went to Australia in winter and Gavin objected to having his bottom exposed. Guess he was not used to the weather (even though I tried to heat up the bathroom first).

I used to be a bit intimidated about the idea of cloth diapering too - not so much the peeing part but the pooping part. I think having my arms elbow deep in poop water (Gavin pooped into his bath water when he was a baby) was a good desensitising experience.

It's funny how much ew factor I've adapted to since having a kid. To think that there was a point when I wouldn't touch a tissue to wipe a kid's saliva - look at me now.

As for the unschooling bit. I was also really keen on that at one point. A friend was telling me how she met a very engaging and dynamic 20 year old who had been completely homeschooled all her life. She was going to talk to her mother about how she handled the home schooling. Haven't had a chance to find out more, but I was very intrigued.

Hi Tara! My best friend does EC but it takes a lot of dedication which I don't have. :D Yeah the eww factor was what held me back. But after washing my son's bottom for over 3 years I think I am quite used to it.

Cloth toilet paper sounds awesome. It is the first I have heard of it but it sure is environmental. :D

I really really like the idea of unschooling but I think I will be crucified by all whom I know if I unschool my kids. Still, best I can do is delay formal schooling for as long as I can.

Thanks for stopping by! I'll be sure to check out John Holt's books.

lol I never used cloth with Zeb, although I was intrigued by the idea. I would def use them next time or maybe try EC (elimination communication). I can only image the ew factor to get over. You'd think since we use cloth toilet paper it wouldn't be a big deal but it seems diapers would be so.much.more. than tp!! Interesting to read someone else's take on it. :)

Thanks for the comment on my blog btw! :) Glad to have turned you onto the idea of unschooling a bit. There are lots of great books if you're interested in reading more. Anything at all by John Holt is fantastic!
