Mom, the Roach Hunter

Green Living, Green Tips, Peaceful Motherhood, The Home Add comments

It seems like since I became a mom I had to overcome many of my fears in order to be a hero to my children. One of them was getting over my fear of roaches.

I used to flee at the sight of a roach but now I have to arm myself with a newspaper and swat it till it is dead. The spray is only allowed if:

1. The roach is unreachable by newspaper.
2. Can find way quickly to the bedroom.
3. Washable area.

After all that stuff is poisonous to everyone and the environment but I have made peace with myself for using it only one out of 20 roaches if at all after trying virtually every safe and environmental method out there but failed miserably.

I have had to resort to roach poison traps which they bring back to their nests and that has been the only way they can be stopped. That and swatting the live ones.

Last night I had to take out 3, rolled up newspaper in hand. Wolf was very proud of me in the morning.

Funny. I totally relate, although my former persona, pre-motherhood, would easily kill the roach/spider/bee/wasp, now that the children are watching my every move, I have developed a more humane approach to the roach. :)
When possible, I spare their lives, because my 4 year old simply cannot see animals suffer. She can cry for an entire evening over a fly..
My boy, on the other hand, cannot stand the sight of anything moving around him, unless it is walking on two legs. Therefore, I am constantly torn between the need to protect him, and the need to spare her emotions.

Thank you for visiting my blog!

I can only kill a roach. I love animals but roaches just flick some primal switch in me. I can’t kill anything else but mozzies and roaches.

Your daughter is so sweet. :D

    Love your dolls!

Oh, believe me, I can kill them in a heart beat, but I just feel so incredibly guilty afterwards, when Sophia gives me ‘that’ look..
She is sweet. When she’s not busy bossing us all around, that is.

    Thank you..(dolls.)

:D My son would cheer me on. The little one, probably too!

I love little girls who boss everyone around. I think Kitten is heading that way. She goes “eh eh”, indicating with her eyes what she thinks we should be doing. I tell my husband: no one will bully her in the future. :D

I feel the same way about my daughter. I often wonder how it is that she is so confident, despite her first 2 years, whilst my son, who was luckier (being adopted at 10+months old) is so..frail. I suppose it’s genetics, personality..
Either way, she is Manageress of the Universe, as far as she’s concerned.

How old is miss ‘eh eh’?:-) It sounds like a good start..I’ll ask Sophia to give her some private lessons.
:) We’ll see how much you like girls who boss everyone around when it’s YOUR girl, and you’re the ‘everyone’ in question.
    ;-}

Miss Eh is 1 year old. :D She would love Sophia to give her private lessons. :D She loves playing with older kids.

LOL! I’ll let you know in 3 years. ;)
