My 100 year old grandmother, fiesty as a whip in her day, succumbed to organ failure from advanced pancreatic cancer, and passed away peacefully on Friday with her family around her.
Just one week ago she was lucid enough to recognise and smile at me but last Wednesday she was out of it, dazed from the morphine administered to ease her pain.
She was on oxygen when we went to say our farewells and took her last breath only after my sister and her family arrived, as if she was waiting for all of us to gather to send her off.
She was a titan in her time and we all admired her for her strength, her love, and her steely will to survive. Rest in peace, Mama. It was one helluva ride.
Mephala is a strange and rather interesting

Really sorry to hear of this. It does sound like she has lived a full and happy life. Sorry for your lost, Christina. You must miss her so much now.

Hang in there Christina. I was extremely close to my grandma as well, and was able to hold her hand as she passed away. And as the 1-year anniversary to her death approaches, there still isn’t a day that I don’t think about her. Sending good vibes your way.

Thanks Derek. I am so sorry for your loss. It’s always hard to lose someone so close to you.
She passed on too when my sister was holding her hand (well, we all took a turn and because she was on oxygen, we didn’t quite know when exactly she passed).
Now after all the formalities are done (she was buried today and I wept buckets), the emptiness of her absence has begun to sink in.
It helps that you understand how I feel. Thank you.

Hey dear… Hope you’re hanging in there okay. At least she has lived a full life, although I know that doesn’t take away the emptiness now that she’s gone. When my grandma passed away, I felt the same. Huge hugs!

Thanks Shen. Hanging in there and remembering the good times, and boy, there were many. Yes, she did.
Huge hugs back!
