Cloth Diapering Kitten at Night

Cloth Diapering, Green Living Add comments

So far I’ve only cloth diapered Wolf at night. A nifty combo of an XL or L Loveybums organic cloth diaper, with a super soaker hemp insert under the organic cotton fleece layer, and an organic Loveybums wool cover over. No leaks on day 3! :D

Kitten is the tricky one to diaper. Her M diapers fit perfectly so not much space to stuff any insert, plus she is so small that she’d have to sleep doing a split if I put an insert in her diaper. And her wool cover is NB/S and it is super snug already.

Sooooo looking at the rest of my arsenal, I had the brainwave (okay, look, for sleep deprived mothers, it is revolutionary already!) to let her wear her M cloth diaper and use the BumGenius over. Perfect and no worries of leakage at night. It fit her to a tee, except her legs are a little stretched out. :p

I’m thinking maybe I should order the L sized diaper and wool cover for her to use at night. I’ve emailed Pam from Loveybums to ask her opinion. Let’s see what she advises.

I still have no courage to cloth diaper my Sean, esp at night! Kudos! You must tell me about how you cope with all the dirty diapers.

Hi Kate, I guess once you figure out a system it will be a lot easier. I hate dealing with poop. Who does? So I hose it down and then put it in the diaper bin (cheap Ikea plastic box with lid). With the pee, I rinse it all off in the shower too. Then when I have a few used diapers I put them in the washing machine.

What kept me from trying cloth before was that I only had one or two pieces so using the machine seemed a waste of water and electricity. I figured if I had enough, then I would not feel it is a waste. And it isn’t. Because it is so much better for my children and for the environment.

Just try it. :D It is really worth it.

Yes, must take notes from you regarding fitting cloth diapers on babies. I never used the cloth diapers on Gavin initially – despite them being “one-size fits all” I found them to be way too big for him. And yes, he was also doing the splits when I tried. It was only when he grew into them that I started using them on him at home.

Well, I waited till “I got my groove back” before I tried cloth. That was 3 months after Jade was born, even though I’d bought the diapers ages before. I guess I had to work out a system before I started.

That way too, you’ll have a rough gauge what size your baby is before you buy. If I had bought now, I would have surely never have bought the NB/S. Thankfully I only got one wool cover + 1 diaper.

Most websites have a measurement chart for you to refer to. I found that very helpful. Plus stick with those with many snaps so you have a range to adjust and grow into as well.

When did you start cloth diapering Gavin?

The diapers I bought were supposed to be “one size fits all”. They were snap button type which were adjustable. But seriously, they were still way too big for Gavin (who was considered a big baby) when he was born.

I really can’t remember when I started putting him into cloth diapers. I might have to dwelve into my photo archives to see when he started appearing in photos wearing his cloth diapers. It was definitely before he started moving because I remember pictures of him lying on the bed with cloth diapers, but I don’t think it was quite as early as three months.

    Which brand was it?

Kudos for starting it for Gavin. :)

I must confess I am getting addicted to them!

I saw them at a local baby fair while I was pregnant. At the time they were the only cloth diapers of this type available in Malaysia.
